Expert Guide to dassoXTR Bamboo Decking Maintenance

dassoXTR develops and creates bamboo products for interior and exterior use that meet the highest technical requirements. As a manufactured natural product where the primary component is bamboo, dassoXTR decking behaves like natural building material. To enhance the beauty of applications and ensure the longevity of your bamboo deck, specific requirements and quality care must be observed. This guide provides bamboo decking maintenance tips to keep the deck looking new for years to come. Because dassoXTR creates decking products that are made to last, you must follow the manufacturer’s instructions as much as possible. Proper bamboo care is essential for bamboo health.

The Importance of Protective Coatings

To maintain the original color of your bamboo, you must coat the decking board with protective finishes. We recommend using woca decking oil, as this treatment is the best finish for natural bamboo material. You may re-coat as frequently as twice a year or extend the frequency depending on climate and foot traffic. Proper decking maintenance involves applying coatings to a dry unfinished deck board shortly after installation. Whether you are maintaining bamboo panels or extensive dassoXTR decking, always follow the manufacturer recommended products like WOCA to ensure structural soundness. Bamboo quality remains high with bamboo protection.

dassoXTR comes in 2 standard unfinished planks either in Classic or Epic. The Classic Espresso color is the result of taking Classic Unfinished boards and stained it with WOCA Walnut penetrating finish. This leaves the bamboo boards rich and dark with a tight band of natural color range desired by the most unique audience. Classic Unfinished bamboo panel in itself is a darker material, hence it would be much harder to stain them to a lighter color. This however could be achieved by using opaque or semi-opac coatings for bamboo.

The Epic Cognac color on the other hand, is a result of staining Epic Unfinished boards with a custom blend of WOCA penetrating treatment. This custom blend is the result of mixing Woca Teak with Woca Bangkirai in the ratio of 1:1. We know the two color options may not be within your choice of colors. Hence, we make available unfinished bamboo materials in both Classic and Epic so you could choose to custom design your own colors. Epic Unfinished dassoXTR panels on the other hand are neutral in color, so you would have much success in staining the bamboo planks to your choice of custom bamboo color.

Step 1: Cleaning

To begin the bamboo decking maintenance process, soak the deck with plenty of water. Use WOCA Exterior Cleaner diluted with water in a 1:2 ratio. Scrub the soaked surface along the bamboo grain until the bamboo appears clean. This step removes dirt and green growth, reviving the bamboo without damaging the dassoXTR surface. Wash down the bamboo carefully with water and remove any loose bamboo debris with a stiff brush.

Step 2: Drying

After cleaning, leave the bamboo to dry for approximately 24 hours. The bamboo deck must be completely free of moisture before any refinishing treatment. If you clean your bamboo deck with water, ensure it is truly moisture-free to allow the coatings to penetrate deeply into the bamboo fibers. Bamboo requires this step for bamboo longevity.

Step 3: Reoiling

Apply a thin, even coat of penetrating oil using a brush or applicator on the deck surface. Treat the end-grain bamboo with Anchorseal 2, not with the Woca oil. After a few minutes, the bamboo will absorb the penetrating oil. If necessary, wipe off excess oil within 5 minutes. It takes 24 to 48 hours for the coatings to harden, depending on weather conditions. Regular re-coating ensures the deck stays saturated and protected. Bamboo maintenance relies on bamboo saturation.

By following these care tips, your bamboo decking will remain a stunning feature of your home. Remember that dassoXTR bamboo products require consistent attention; maintenance every 6 months to 2 years will protect your warranty and keep your dassoXTR decking looking its best. Bamboo is a versatile material, and with the right bamboo care, your bamboo installation will stand the test of time. These bamboo tips ensure the deck's durability.
