Here are what you should be considering when deciding on which pedestal parts to get;

  1. If your base level or slope?

    If your base is levelled, then all you need is a membrane to cushion the pedestal to your base.  And if your base is sloped, then you will need an adjustable base plate to compensate so that your pedestal is vertically levelled.

  2. What are you using for deck surface, deck plank or deck tiles?

    Each of the pedestal will comes with both type of connectors, one for securing joist for the deck plank and the other is to connect to deck tiles.

  3. How high is your planned deck?

    In the case of deck tiles, if your planned deck height is 20” (from base to deck surface), your pedestal height should be, deck height 20” – tiles thickness 1-1/2” = pedestal height 18-1/2”. For this height, you will need 1 piece of DS-PRO-XL, 3 pieces of DS-Ex10, and 1 piece of DS-Ex4, which is 6-5/8” + 3 x 3-7/8” + 1-5/8” = 19-7/8”.

  4. Deck plank will require joist. How high is the joist?
    If you are using deck plank, then you will need to install joist on top of the pedestal as a connector between pedestal to deck plank. The joist can be treated wood or aluminum joist. In this case, you will have to minus the joist height from the pedestal height. For examples; deck height 20” – tiles thickness 1-1/2” – 3-1/2” = pedestal height 15”.
